This weeks portraits using a little ink roller that normally is used for blotting out addresses to draw the basic structure, then soft pastels to colour them and a bit of black ink. Used hairspray to fix them.
The second set were played with in the Photodirector app I have, but I only put them through one filter.

Glad hairspray works for you whenever i tried any fixative, it ruined my work. Maybe I’m not doing it right.
Really nice sketches as always 🙂

I think the pastels I used are quite stable (and cheap). They seem easier to fix than more expensive ones. Best thing is to get quite rough paper (like sandpaper) then it seems to stick better without fixative.

i did get pastel paper that has deep tooth. it takes layers and layers but yea it sticks better. i never tried working on sandpaper too, i thought it would be hard to blend.

You can get paper like sandpaper! Not actual sandpaper. Sometimes you need to put them in a box frame and raise the surround above it so it doesn’t knock the pastel off and any pastel dust falls inside the frame behind the surround. (does this make sense?)

I thought actual sand paper 🤦♀️ no wonder i was scared to touch it.
It does. I think i have a box frame. Thanks for telling me pastles are awesome to work with but difficult to preserve.
Thanks a lot 🙂 xx
