Model railway?

A ship docks alongside the quay as trains move to and from the docks goods yard. I focused on the boat because it was a very impressive model and clearly took pride of place on the model layout.

My hubby is into trains and often visits model railway exhibitions. I don’t go to many. I can appreciate the skills but I get a bit bored unless there is something interesting on the layouts. He can tell me what the scale of the model is, who manufactured it, even how old its likely to be. Me, I’m more interested in the dioramas (landscapes). How the trees are modelled, any buildings, if there is a Scarecrow in a feild, the quirkier the better!

Meanwhile in hubby’s world..

Double ‘O’ gauge Station with a green LMS ginty engine, 060. Model, night time view.

It’s just on a small piece of board but it’s got two platforms and an engine shed waiting for trains to enter for repairs and maintenance. Behind the platform stand beer barrels waiting to be loaded. This would be a small country town station, perhaps in Devon, although LMS trains would usually be found all over the country and were used for shunting local freight, acting as pilot engines that ran in front of main engines to assist them on steep sections of track. They were also engines for passenger trains. With the 060 wheel set up (no leading wheels, six main wheels and no trailing wheels) they could get round twisting tracks easier.

The board is too small to have moving engines, but it’s an idea of how a station would have been set up in the past.

We got a nice shed so my hubby could have somewhere to store all his bikes and bike bits. But something has migrated in there. OO guage trains, hornby dublo and triang, have moved in. The bikes, tyres, tubes, wheels have been evicted to various bushes in the garden, sheltering from summer showers.

Trying to explain that if he gets a couple of storage boxes or some shelves. He could put things away and not have to step over train transformers to get in. Also if we get a pasting table he won’t have to kneel on the floor… I don’t think being organised is his strong suit….
