Do you see me smiling,
behind my mask?
With my eyes.
Yes I’m smiling its true,
gently smiling not grinning.
I walk into shops,
I try to smile,
I want them to know,
I’m a friend.
The mask hides my smile,
I feel hidden.
I could be a robber,
a thief or a shoplifter.
If I wear gloves,
I feel guilty,
like I’m hiding.
So I smile,
even though it’s behind a mask.
