Many things

What have you been putting off doing? Why?

When you go through bad times anxiety and nerves can hold you back. These emotions can make you hold your tongue, stop you going out, make you forget to write to, or email, or phone people. You put off till tomorrow and forget to do today… Eventually everything piles up and you don’t do anything, or just the bare minimum.

But I’m learning through counselling to do easy tasks first, then as they get easier and less onerous you can move on to medium difficulty tasks, and finally difficult ones. But if you have a set back, don’t give up. Start again with things you can cope with and gradually move on. Self repair, self acceptance. Be kind to yourself.

Last week I found myself laughing, I hope I can start doing more of the things I have been putting off. Hopefully…. Unless I get too stressed.

  1. It’s funny how we forget when we’re overwhelmed, but we can only ever do one thing at a time. Counseling is a big help for that, and so is learning to accept you might not do the one thing, but tomorrow is another day to do that one thing. That’s gotten me through so much in my life. ❤️

      1. I think kids do get taught that, but kids aren’t grown-ups and they don’t understand time and they want things all at once. I think activities like building models and board games and even video games teach this in a subliminal way. Kids are impatient, too. For me sports were an important teacher. I could only get better by practicing and practicing meant failing. Probably for everyone it’s different.

I think it’s adults who feel like failures when they’re not what or who they think they should be. I think competition in school is probably not helpful, though. It’s important for people to learn that failure is OK. The best students I had in my classes were the students who had failed somewhere along the way and lived to try another day. It’s complicated. There’s such a gap between how we think things SHOULD be, how we WANT them to be and how they ARE. It’s a complicated thing with a simple solution that isn’t always easy. You’ll make it, Chris. Just take it one step at a time and go easy on yourself when you don’t reach your expectations. I’m “speaking” as a person who had a full on nervous breakdown and had to rebuild my life. All I could do was do it, and it wasn’t like the external challenges ever relented while I did it.

        Long story. ❤️ BIG hug!

  2. I need to transfer money from one bank to another just to avoid low balance in one. That counts as an easy thing but that is so terribly boring I’ve bene putting it off.
