I went to Longton Station on the train today to see the site of a possible mural.
The station sits above the main road in Longton and is accessed by two sets of stairs up to the north and south bound platforms. Trains travel from crewe through Stoke-on-Trent and onwards to Derby. The platforms are open to the elements except for a couple of shelters, one on each platform. On one side of the station there are three small murals depicting pottery making, Longton viaduct and a train pulling into the station. These are a fraction of the size of the three blue archways that are waiting to be turned into murals down on the ground at the bottom of the stairs that face the main road. As far as I can tell the idea is to paint murals onto boards that will then be attached to the doors after they are finished.
We saw a lot of the industrial heritage surrounding the area. One person said they would love to see more flowers and colours around to brighten the site up.
The only downside? The train tickets (return) were only £2.60 each. But the parking at Stoke Station was a whopping £12 although I was only there for about an hour!
